‘Home is where the heart is’

I am an asylum seeker waiting to hear about my status. I have come over from Bangladesh and have 3 children.

Has lockdown changed you? How? Why?

I feel emotional and upset, very bored and lonely. You can’t see anyone, I used to go out before but you can’t go out now.

What made you smile or brought you joy in lockdown? Can you explain it…

I was able to worship and pray a lot more than usual and pray on time. We pray as a family. We feel a stronger connection to Allah, even though our connection with others is not the same.

Have you changed since lockdown? Tell me why?

Definitely, I feel like a different person. I feel like I have had time to reflect as we have so much time alone.

What is the story behind your hand art? (Could be what you used, the colours, symbols, place, person, memories, inspired by etc.)

Really enjoyed doing it, my daughters loved creating this art. Home has been so important during all of this as we spend so much time at home so Zikra has drawn our house.

Anything else you would like to share?

It has made us patient and grateful being in lockdown. We are scared but also hopeful and wait for better days.
